Students staying back at universities late into the night is very common. Workload makes them largely unaware of time. Universities like CMU, make efforts to provide utmost security to its affiliates by providing security & escort bus facility. Inspite of this, sometimes when a student has to walk back to a location where escort bus service is not provided, his/her safety is compromised. There have been several instances of students getting assaulted, mugged by strangers at night.
This issue is common across universities. Our team wants to find a way to address this concern. Students normally stay in clusters around campus. For example, in CMU’s case, majority of students either stay in Shadyside, Negley, Central Avenue or Squirrel Hill region. There are students who spend most of their time in the university campus and walk back home together. If there is a way to collaborate, plan and leave together, students can ensure their own as well as each other’s safety.
Our application aims to improve students’ sense of security on campus by providing a collaborative platform. Students can initiate a “walk-together” request and gather students, who would like to walk towards same areas together. The service shall be offered through mobile application installed on a users phone.
